O primeiro tempo começou movimentado e equilibrado, mas sem oportunidades de perigo para nenhuma das equipes. O visitante estava um pouco mais solto em campo e protagonizou a primeira chance real do jogo. Aos 12′, Robinho quase abriu o placar para o Botafogo-SP. O Rubro-Negro, porém, perdeu um de seus jogadores por lesão aos 15′. Desse modo, Heron sentiu a posterior da coxa esquerda e foi substituído, dando lugar a Jefferson em campo.

Os donos da casa seguiram atuando sem muito perigo e o jogo continuou morno por muitos minutos. Dessa forma, nenhuma das equipes conseguiu ter reais chances de balançar as redes.
Contudo, aos 21′, Kelvin chutou de três dedos muito perto da trave, mas a bola não entrou para o empate do Dragão.
